DAMASCUS -- Iranian Minister of Health and Medical Education Massoud Pezeshkian, heading a delegation, arrived here Friday night.

Pezeshkian was welcomed at Damascus International Airport by Syrian Minister of Health Muhammad Iyad Ash-Shatti and Iranian Ambassador to Syria Hossein Sheikholeslam.

Upon his arrival, the Iranian minister proceeded to the second international exhibition of medical equipment and services currently being held in Syria, IRNA reported.

During his two-day stay in the Syrian capital, Pezeshkian is scheduled to meet and confer with his Syrian counterpart on the expansion of mutual ties in the fields of health and medical treatment as well as follow up implementation of accords already inked by the two sides.

He will also visit a number of hospitals and medical treatment centers of the country.

According to previous accords concluded by the two countries, Iran is expected to provide Syria with modern medical technology and advanced equipment.

Syria is still awaiting Iranian investment to equip 18 newly built hospitals in the country.

During a visit to Syria by Iranian Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ali Abdolalizadeh in February, Ash-Shatti complained about the lukewarm attitude of Iranian companies to implementing projects carried out by the Syrian Health Ministry.

During another visit Abdolalizadeh made to Syria in April, he concluded an official agreement to equip three hospitals of that country.

From Syria, Pezeshkian will head for Beirut on Sunday to participate in an international meeting.
