Arab Group Calls On EU to Remove Palestinian Groups From Terrorist List

BRUSSELS -- The Arab European League (AEL) has criticized the decision of the European Union to extend its terrorist list to include more Palestinian resistance organizations as ''totally unfair.'' ''It is unfair because it is criminalizing the struggle of a people that are under siege and under attack by one of the mightiest armies on earth, a people fighting for its freedom with the limited possibilities it has,'' said AEL, which is based in the Belgian city of Antwerp, in a press release.

EU foreign ministers in a meeting on Monday in Luxembourg decided to add the PFLP and the Al-Aqsa brigades to its terrorist list, IRNA reported.

The EU list first released in December also included Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas Izzedine al-Qassam, which the union called the "terrorist wing of Hamas".

AEL demanded that all Palestinian resistance groups be taken off the EU terrorist list.

The AEL is organizing a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Brussels on Sunday.
