DUSHANBE--Some 450 people have been infected with Typhoid fever in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, one of the poorest of the ex-Soviet Republics, AFP quoted health officials as saying on Tuesday.

They said contaminated water supplies appeared to be the main cause of the spread of the disease.

Typhoid is spread by contaminated food and water, and its symptoms include headache, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.
