President Arrives in Arabia for Hajj Prilgrimage

TEHRAN -- President Mohammad Khatami on Wednesday arrived in Saudi Arabia for a pilgrimage to holy sites in Mecca and Medina, IRNA reported.

Khatami said that during his stay in Saudi Arabia, he would meet Saudi officials.

He gave no details about his plan, but, made it clear that no delegation will accompany him to Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, government Spokesman Abdollah Ramezan-Zadeh said that President Khatami's visit would be informal, but, he would hold talks with Saudi officials during his stay in that country.

The spokesman did not mention the agenda of President Khatami's negotiations with Saudi officials.

In the meantime, the president's office said in a statement that Khatami's visit to Saudi Arabia is a private one for minor hajj pilgrimage.

The statement further said that President Khatami is expected to hold talks with Saudi Crown Prince Adbullah on mutual and regional issues.
