TEHRAN -- An Australian parliamentary delegation, headed by MP David Jull, conferred here Tuesday with the Head of the Iran-Australia Friendship Group, Ja'far Kambozia, on possible ways of expanding ties in various areas.

During the meeting, Kambozia pointed to the increasingly good relations between the two sides in recent years, and expressed hope that bilateral ties would get a boost in all areas through regular meetings.

Referring to the approval of the Law on Foreign Investment in Iran, he hoped that Tehran-Canberra trade and commercial ties would further improve.

The Iranian government has in recent years attached considerable importance to the development of its tourism industry and has placed it high on its agenda, said Kambozia, noting that the two countries have the potentials to boost their respective tourism industries.

The Iranian official further called for implementation of accords already signed between the two countries, IRNA reported. Referring to the Oct. 12 bombings in Bali, Indonesia, he said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran has harshly condemned all terrorist attacks in the world and has called for a vigorous fight against terrorism in all its forms under the supervision of the United Nations."

Jull, currently here at the invitation of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mahdi Karrubi, described the meetings between the two sides as "very constructive" for expansion of all-important ties.

"Iran is one of the major economic partners of Australia," he said.

He stressed the need to bolster parliamentary ties as well as the other activities of the Iran-Australia Friendship Group which, he said, can lead to better understanding between the respective governments and nations.
