TEHRAN – Leader of the Islamic Revolution said on Wednesday that the Iranian people want parliamentarians who will be “religious”, “committed”, “brave”, “resistant against the hegemonic system’s excessive demands”, defenders of the country’s “dignity and national independence”, “interested in the country’s progress”, determined to solve the people’s problems”, and finally in favor of a “generative economy.”
The people want a parliament which fulfils its legal duties and will not be intimidated by the U.S., Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said during a meeting with a large group of people from Najafabad.
The remarks by the Leader come as Iranians are set to go to polling stations on Friday to vote for parliamentary and the Assembly of Experts candidates.
The Leader said officials and politicians should be aware of the plots by ill-wishers who plan to sow the seeds of “false bipolarity” in the elections.
“Ill-wishers of the Iranian nation have turned to creating fake bipolarity in these elections to instill division into the people,” the Leader noted.
He added that “fake bipolarity” is originated from outside of the country, however, sometimes the issue is repeated from inside.
The Leader also said the nation wants neither a pro-government parliament nor an anti-government one, otherwise it will be an example of “fake bipolarity”.
The Leader also attached great importance to participation in the elections, noting it will demonstrate the people’s resistance against the enemy.
He also said the issue of infiltration into the country exists and sometimes a person is not aware of being an agent of infiltration, warning the people and officials against the threat.
Moreover, the Leader urged the people and officials to avoid using the language of “extremists” and “moderates” which is characteristic of the “enemy’s political discourse”.
He stated since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution, enemies have been using these terms and in their view anybody who is more determined in guarding the Islamic revolution and the views of Imam Khomeini is extremist and anybody who gives in to foreigners is moderate.
