Iran youth volleyball team out of eight

August 22, 2011 - 14:47
altIran rushed past Puerto Rico in the 2011 FIVB Boy’s Youth Volleyball World Championship on Sunday but failed to advance to the top eight teams.

The Asian team won an easy game against Puerto Rico by 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-19) in Pool D in Almirante Brown, Argentina.

Iran's captain Pourya Fayazi was named as the man of the match with 16 points, backed up by Sajad Dehnavi with 12 (5 blocks) and Javad Hosseinabadi with 11.

Serbia defeated Spain 3-1 (21-25, 28-26, 25-22, 25-21) to edge Iran by a better sets ratio (7-4 to 6-4) in the pool.

"We don't feel well since we haven't qualified. But this is our fault. We left our destiny on the other matches. I also feel bad for the match Spain played, because after they won the first set they changed the way they played. It's unfair", Iran coach Behrouz Ataei Nouri said during post match news conference.

Second round pools composition is as follows:

Positions 1-8

Pool E: Argentina, China, Cuba and Serbia. Pool F: Greece, Bulgaria, Spain and France.

Positions 9-16

Pool G: Egypt, Tunisia, Brazil and Puerto Rico. Pool H: Russia, United States, Iran and Korea.
