TEHRAN – A Persian translation of Turkish author Ismail Gezgin’s book, “The Mythology of Art” (“Sanatin Mitolojisi”), has recently been published in Tehran.

The Elmi Farhangi Publishing Company introduced the book translated into Persian by Behruz Avazpur during a special ceremony in Tehran on Tuesday.

The translator gave a brief explanation about the book, saying that writing is a movement that begins with a myth leading towards art, or the reverse, art that moves towards myth. 

“This book is quite the opposite of other complicated texts, it has a very smooth narration with very simple text,” he added.

Scholar Hamidreza Shairi also attending the ceremony said that in the world of today, myth has been tied with movement and can move in all directions, adding, “In myth, movements, beliefs and imaginations are hidden.”

“Every myth is a verbal picture presented to us. Some of them are even movie products that are made up with moving pictures because of the way they describe certain processes,” reads part of the description of the book in Turkish.

“Myths reflects the psychology of antiquity. Art, at least in the beginning, is a psychological need. In this sense, we can argue that art comes from the same source as myths. In other words, written cultural myths are the continuation of the mythological expressions of people before writing,” it says.
