    Iran’s annual saffron exports exceed $190m

    TEHRAN - Iranian saffron farmers exported 324.589 tons of products worth over $190 million to 60 foreign destinations during the previous Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20), the spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) announced.

Often referred to as the “red gold”, saffron is the world’s most expensive spice that is obtained from the stigmas of the Crocus flower. The golden-colored stigmas are dried and used as a spice to flavor foods and as a dye to color foods and other products.
