TEHRAN – An official with the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) of Iran announced here on Saturday that the country has inked 23 maritime memorandums of understanding (MOU) with other countries in the ten months to January 19, 2009.

Mohsen Sadeqifar, the director of the PMO for tariffs and transit affairs added that the MOUs were signed with Turkey, Tajikistan, India (2 MOUs), Bulgaria, Ghana, South Africa, Cuba, Pakistan, Russia, Algeria, Nigeria, Kenya, Jordan, Ecuador (2 MOUs), Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Tanzania, Malaysia, Syria, Oman, and Armenia.
The PMO has also signed agreements for the establishment of joint maritime-port committees with Azerbaijan, South Africa, Poland, Gambia, Turkey, Russia, India, Kuwait, and Syria, he added, according to Mehr News Agency.
The official noted that due to some political reasons, the PMO has recently shifted from European countries to Asian and African nations to broaden its activities
