TEHRAN – The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and Norway’s SKULD marine insurance company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in the field of shipping insurance, IRIB news agency reported on Thursday.

Based on the MOU, the Norwegian company will provide IRISL with different kinds of sea insurances and handle the complaints pertain to the insurances.

SKULD will also cooperate with IRISL regarding training of personnel and upgrading knowledge and capabilities of the Iranian experts.

The Alphaliner’s Top 100 has placed IRISL at 21st place among the largest container or liner operators in terms of global capacity.
IRISL managing director Mohammad Saeedi said in April that Iran’s shipping lines to Europe had been cut for seven years under the sanctions against the country, but shipping lines to Homburg in Germany, Antwerp in Belgium, and Genoa in Italy are now re-connected thanks to the removal of sanctions.

He added that Iran also plans to resume its shipping lines to Latin America, Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay on the way to make its exports and imports easier and of course at lower prices.

SKULD is a world leading marine insurance provider with a strong financial position and an 'A' rating with Standard & Poor's.
