Iran emerge victorious over Panama in friendly

November 10, 2017

Iran beat Panama football team 2-1 in a friendly match in Graz, Austria on Thursday.

Team Melli had an impressive FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying campaign, finishing top of their group above Korea Republic with nine clean sheets in the process.

Iran took the lead in the 16th minute with a penalty from Ashkan Dejagah after a wild, sliding challenge from Jan Vargas on Karim Ansarifard.

Three minutes later, Saman Ghoddos directed the ball into the net with right-footed strike.

Panama pulled a goal back in the 39th minute, also from the penalty spot, with Gabriel Torres converting after Rouzbeh Chesmi was harshly ruled to have fouled Armando Cooper.

The Asia's top-ranked team will also meet Venezuela on Monday in the Netherlands.

Iran will be playing in fifth World Cup next year in Russia while Panama have qualified for the first time.
