Thailand Moves Cambodian Refugees to More Secure Camp

BANGKOK Thailand has started moving about 20,000 Cambodian refugees to a more secure camp near the border where they stopped after fleeing fighting between Cambodian government troops and Khmer Rouge guerrillas last week, the English-language Bangkok Post reported Sunday. The move to a camp about 570 kilometres northeast of Bangkok is to allay fears the refugees will be attacked by Cambodian government troops or Khmer Rouge guerrillas.
The move will take about a week, Thai authorities said. Thailand has also beefed up security at the camps. Fighting continued Sunday just across the border in Cambodia as the government bids to crush the dwindling Khmer Rouge forces, who have suffered mass defections. (DPA)
