STANFORD, California (AFP) -- FA Cup champion Chelsea will play Mexico's Club America in a friendly here at Stanford University on July 14, the English side announced on its website Thursday.

The match against the 10-time Mexican champions will be a tune-up for the World Series of Football tournament in Los Angeles the following week, which will see Chelsea open by playing South Korea's Suwon Bluewings on July 17.

A July 21 match against the Los Angeles Galaxy could be English star David Beckham's debut with the U.S. club, which signed him in January to a blockbuster deal worth 25.0 million dollars once his contract with Real Madrid ends June 30.

"We're looking forward to coming to the U.S. for the fourth year in a row and to the beginning of an exciting and challenging pre-season schedule," Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho said.

"It's important for Chelsea to play good teams with good players. Club America is playing at a very high level right now and the match will be a true test for our team as we begin preparation for the new season."
