British soldier dies after accident in Afghanistan

LONDON (AFP) -- A British soldier died in Afghanistan on Sunday from injuries suffered in an accident at a base in Sangin, in the southern province of Helmand, the Defense Ministry here said.
The soldier's name was not released, but the Ministry of Defense confirmed that the soldier's family had been informed.
"The Ministry of Defense deeply regrets to announce that a British soldier from 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment died today, as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic accident at the British base in Sangin, Afghanistan," a statement from the ministry said. "The circumstances of the accident will be the subject of an investigation and no further details will be released until that investigation is complete, but we can confirm that the soldier's death was not the result of enemy action."
