First USFIC confab to be held in Tehran

TEHRAN -- The first conference of the Union of Short Filmmakers of Islamic Countries (USFIC) will be held from August 18 until 24 in Tehran by The Iranian Young Cinema Society (IYCS).
The main objective of the union is the dissemination of a true representation of Islam and Muslims to counter the unreasonable and unethical images propagated by western media.Among the functions and activities of the USFIC are the creation of closer links between short filmmakers in Islamic countries, discussion and exchange of views on Islam, the creation of strategies to correctly introduce Islam to the world, collaboration between countries on the production of short films and the exchange of information.
In November 2006, concurrently with the Tehran 11th International Short Film Festival, the IYCS held a first joint meeting in Tehran with Muslim guests from Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Sudan, Qatar and Tunisia where it was proposed that a union of short filmmakers of Islamic Countries be established.
