Japanese scholar writes book on Persian music

TEHRAN -- “Iranian Music”, a book focusing on Persian traditional music, has been launched recently by Seidosha publications in Tokyo.

Written by Masato Tani, the work contains a detailed academic study of the complex and profound nature of Iranian music and its influence on Arab and Indian music.
In the first chapter of the book Tani praises Iranian music, referring to the Japanese pioneer of ethnomusicology Fumio Koizumi (1927-1983) and his great appreciation and love for this Persian art.
The 252 page work is divided into six chapters.
It is sold with a CD included which comprises tracks in Shur and Mahur dastgahs and additional details by the author.
A graduate of Tehran’s Art University, Tani has studied Iranian music focusing on the santur.
He has also studied the concept of improvisation in Iranian traditional music and carried out research on Islamic musical compositions.
