TEHRAN The Press Court in its Monday session, found Shalamche's Managing Director Deh Namaki guilty for defamation, pouring insult and slandering, but said the biweekly deserves to be commuted. The press jury investigating the complaints lodged by the former minister of post, telephone and telegraph Mohammad Qarazi and Behzad Nabavi in the court found Deh Namaki guilty. However, since it was the first time he was being tried, the jury called on him not to defame and insult others any more and decided that he must be given a commuted punishment.
President Mohammad Khatami had filed a complaint against Shalamche and the monthly Ya-Lesarat al-Hossein, but, on Sunday he withdrew his complaints as a symbol of Islamic patience and self-restraint. The managing director of Ya-Lesarat al-Hossein sent a letter to President Khatami on Monday thanking him for the decision. Abdolhamid Mohtasham in his letter underlined that the monthly will continue its support for the president.
