TEHRAN -- A book containing a selection of works by the late painter and sculptor Iraj Karim Khan Zand was introduced Wednesday at the opening of the exhibition “Retrospective of Iraj Karim Khan Zand.”

The book contains notes and articles written by Zand on his artwork, along with a collection of photos of his paintings and sculptures.
Iraj Karim-Khan Zand died of cancer at the age of 54 in December 2006.
Written by several artists including Leili Golestan, Bahar Mojabi, Ruiin Pakbaz, and Mehdi Sahabi, the articles are about the style and method of works by Zand.
A collection of sketches, handwritings, and the last interview of Zand, along with 73 photos of his paintings and sculptures are included in the 208-page book, which is published by Nazar Publications.
Golestan who was present at the opening ceremony of the exhibit made a short speech and said, “The book will become an outstanding source for Iran’s history of sculpture. It contains articles and notes by professional masters and experts.”
The exhibit contains about 120 paintings and 35 sculptures, and will continue at the Niavaran Cultural Center until December 1.
According to late master’s wife Sayeh Barimani, viewers can watch several short films made on life of Zand also in the side section of the exhibit, which will make them more familiar with the master’s character.
Born in 1952, Zand was a student of Mohsen Vaziri-Moqaddam, one of the pioneers of modern art in Iran. He had also been a university student in Paris.
Zand displayed such great skill in his metal sculptures, that his works in this medium are called the “beautiful melodies of iron.”
