Typhoon Zeb Hammers Taiwan; Heads North

TAIPEI Typhoon Zeb hammered Taiwan on Friday, raising to 79 the number of people killed in its path across the Philippines and this island. Zeb killed at least 12 people on Taiwan and shut down government offices and financial markets. Meteorologists said Zeb which killed 67 people in the Philippines had lost some intensity and was travelling about 22 km per hour (14 mph) as it lumbered north-northeastward into the open Pacific toward Japan's southern island of Okinawa.
