PAMPLONA, Dec. 12 -- Iranian Osasuna midfielder Javad Nekounam said he is going to be the best player in the Spanish club’s history.
“I am very happy to be here. I was going to leave the team in the summer window but I think I made the right decision to stay. I have a close relationship with the club, players and fans,” Nekounam said in a news conference held at the Osasuna club.“People supported me when I was injured. I will never forget their kindness. I’m a very sentimental person and can’t turn a blind eye to what they have done for me,” the midfielder added.
“I owe our fans and that’s why I want to be the best. I will not go. Osasuna is my second home. Of course, sometimes things do not go the way you want,” Nekounam said.
“Osasuna has to qualify for the European Championship this year. Playing in this competition is a dream that we always talk about in the dressing room. I’m not saying we are champions of the league, but I just talk about playing in it. I think the team is capable of doing that. I had so many options to go to another team and play in the Champions League, but it makes me happy to play in Europe with Osasuna,” the 29 years old added.
“I think this season we understand each other better. We must concentrate on Mallorca at home on Sunday,” Nekounam concluded.
