Ancelotti: Italy will unite behind Chelsea against Inter

Carlo Ancelotti claims the Italian public will be supportive of his attempts to knock Inter Milan and former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho out of the Champions League.

Ancelotti returns to his home country on Wednesday night for the first leg of the last-16 tie and comes up against a man still revered at Stamford Bridge and respected in England for the success he brought to Chelsea following his appointment in 2004.
But Mourinho's reputation in Serie A is less formidable and despite winning the Scudetto at the first attempt last season, he has courted controversy and angered opposition managers and fans during his time with Inter.
Ancelotti therefore expects Italians not of a Nerazzurri persuasion to be very much in his corner on Wednesday night, telling Il Giornale: ""All of Italy, apart from Inter supporters, will be a fan of Chelsea.""
The last-16 tie is intriguingly poised as Mourinho prepares to face Chelsea for the first time in a competitive encounter. The two-time Premier League winner came up against his former club in pre-season, losing 2-0 in Pasadena in July.
Didier Drogba scored on that occasion, and the man who was brought to the club by Mourinho in July 2004 and forged such a strong bond with the manager will again be Chelsea's danger man having scored seven goals in his past six games.
Inter defender Walter Samuel, who was dismissed along with Ivan Cordoba in a 0-0 draw with Sampdoria at the weekend, says Drogba will be receiving close attention from the home side in Milan.
""Marking a centre forward like Drogba is difficult - but if we remain tight to him he will always have problems receiving the ball,"" Samuel told the Sun. ""We'll have to do this kind of limited work but that's the best route to victory.""
The build-up to the tie has naturally focused around Mourinho given the success he enjoyed as Chelsea manager, and Inter striker Samuel Eto'o believes the coach is calm ahead of the visit of his former side.
""The boss is relaxed and it's normal that he wants us to show Chelsea our best,"" Eto'o said. ""You can be sure that every secret of their defensive line has been explained to us.
""I think it will be a very tactical match that will take the whole 180 minutes over both legs to decide. It's necessary to play and prepare as calmly as we can. Anxiety is negative because this is the time to be strong. But I have yet to see Mourinho nervous.""
