Marcelo Bielsa has reportedly agreed with Athletic Bilbao presidential candidate Josu Urrutia to become the Lions' coach if he wins control of the club in the July 7 elections.
The news, reported by ETB, comes on the same day that it emerged from Argentina that Bielsa had turned down an approach from Inter to replace Leonardo at San Siro.Current Bilbao coach Joaquin Caparros has been at San Mames since 2007, but has been unable to agree a contract extension due to the forthcoming elections, and it appears that Urrutia will opt against renewing his deal in favour of appointing the Argentine.
Having reportedly had a telephone conversation with Inter president Massimo Moratti over the weekend, it was expected that the former Argentina and Chile boss would become the Italian outfit's next tactician. But reports earlier today from El Nacion suggested Bielsa had declined the opportunity to switch to Italy.
And with the latest developments, Bielsa now looks set for the Basque country, where he will be hoping to improve on the side's sixth place finish in 2010-11. (Source: Goal)
