“Fatima (SA), the Symbol of Humanity” published in Turkish
TEHRAN – A Turkish version of Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli’s book “Fatima (SA), the Symbol of Humanity” (“Fatima Insanlik Ornegi”), which is about the life and moral values of the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (S), has recently been released by Onsoz Publications in Istanbul.Translated from Persian into Turkish by Muaz Pazarbasi, the book has been published under the auspices of the Iranian cultural attaché’s office in Erzurum.
Iranian thespians to stage “The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi”
TEHRAN – An Iranian theater troupe led by director Eshan Falahatpisheh is scheduled to perform Swiss playwright Friedrich Durrenmatt’s “The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi” at Nazerzade Kermani Hall of Tehran’s Iranshahr Theater Complex on September 15.
Rendered into Persian by the late Iranian playwright Hamid Samandarian, the play was written in 1950, but Durrenmatt continued to revise it until 1980.
Iranian, Spanish universities to expand ties
TEHRAN – Tehran’s Allameh Tabatabai University (ATU) and the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Madrid on September 4 to expand cultural relations.
The MOU was inked between the dean of the Spanish Department at the ATU, Najmeh Shobeyri, and José Manuel Lucía Megías, the dean of the Library, Cultural and Institutional Relations of the Faculty of Philology at the UCM.
Tehran cinematheque screening lineup of foreign hits
TEHRAN – Tehran’s Qolhak Cinematheque is screening a selection of foreign hits during its latest program, which will run until September 11.
“The Godfather” directed by Francis Ford Coppola, “Interstellar” and “Following” by Christopher Nolan, “A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence” by Roy Andersson, and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” by Michel Gondry, and “Furious Seven” by James Wan are among the films.
The lineup also includes Hayao Miyazaki’s “Princess Mononoke”, George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road”, Daniel Espinosa’s “Child 44”, Brad Anderson’s “The Machinist” and Thomas Vinterberg’s “Far from the Madding Crowd”.
Montreal filmfest arranges another screening for “Muhammad (S)”
TEHRAN – Due to popular demand, the 39th Montreal World Film Festival has arranged another additional screening for “Muhammad (S), the Messenger of God” for today, which is the last day of the event, the organizers announced on Sunday.
The film directed by Majid Majidi about the childhood of the Prophet of Islam (S) opened the festival on August 27. It also received extra screenings on August 28 and 31.
The film has also been welcomed by Iranian moviegoers following its release on August 27.
“Zanzibar” hits Iranian bookstores
TEHRAN – A Persian version of German author Alfred Hellmuth Andersch’s “Zanzibar” has recently been released by Mahi Publications in Tehran.
The novel originally entitled “Sansibar oder der letzte Grund”, tells the story of a teenage boy, whose father had drowned ten years earlier as a sailor and who now has an apprenticeship with Fischer Heinrich Knudsen, dreams of becoming a run away like Huckleberry Finn.
The novel was translated into Persian by Sorush Habibi.
