Second Container Ship Berths at Shahid Rajaei SEZ

BANDARABBAS, Hormuzgan Prov. The second container ship from the Far East docked at Shahid Rajaei Special Economic Zone in this southern port city Monday night, said the head of zone Abbas Ali Estiri here Tuesday. He added that the ship with a capacity 2,200 containers belongs to an international shipping line, adding, that it took 15 days for the ship to reach the SEZ. He said that the docking of large container ships in Bandar Abbas cuts down transportation expenses by $300 for each container.
Estiri also said that since March, 21, 1998, when the SEZ formally began its operation, the volume of cargoes loaded and off-loaded at the zone and the number of ships visiting the port has been on the rise. Estiri also called on economic officials and the central bank in particular, to help the special economic zone to find its real position and boost its activities.
The Shahid Rajaie SEZ known as the golden gate is located 35 km southwest of Bandar Abbas. The first container ship from the Far East docked at the SEZ on December 22.
