NEW YORK Sang Lan, the Chinese gymnast paralyzed at last year's Goodwill Games, will be allowed to return home in June, almost a year after her injury, her doctors said. Sang, 17, was China's vault champion when she landed on the back of her head during a warm-up vault and was paralyzed. After months of therapy and rehabilitation, Sang is now able to raise her arms and has regained strength in her shoulders, wrists and elbows.
I'm very happy to go back, she said. But I will miss New York. Actor Leonardo de Caprio and once-paralyzed American football star Dennis Byrd were among the bedside visitors wishing Sang well during her stay. (AFP)
