Maradona eyes Ferydoon Zandi move

Esteghlal midfielder Ferydoon Zandi has been linked with a move to Al Wasl of the United Arab Emirates, reports said.

Al Wasl coach Diego Maradona is looking forward to sign the new foreign reinforcements during January transfer window.

Al Wasl’s title hopes were in tatters after the team lost to Al Wahda 2-1 on Friday.

Maradona has linked with Diego Forlan, Carlos Tevez, and Schalke's ex-Spain international Raul as well.

In a television interview, Al Wasl chairman Marwan bin Bayat confirmed they would now seek to replace foreign duo Edson Puch and Richard Porta after they failed to impress in the Emirati league.

Iran’s Ferydoon Zandi and Argentinean Juan Ignacio Mercier are the other players on Al Wasl's shopping list.

"There will be no place for any player who does not meet our aspiration. The team played really badly, and I did not expect this from them," Maradona told reporters after his team was defeated by Al Wahda.

"We have become Santa Claus, distributing gifts in this Christmas period, and I hate that. I do not like giving gifts to my competitors. The team lacks personality, determination and the desire to win," former Argentina coach added.
