TEHRAN – The Third Ammar International Popular Film Festival (AIPFF) opened in Tehran on Wednesday.

This year’s festival, which will run until August 26, is focusing on anti-coup films.

“State of Siege” and “Missing” directed by world renowned Greek filmmaker Costa-Gavras and “Dawson Isla 10” by Chilean director Miguel Littin are among the movies.

In addition, documentaries, including “Salvador Allende” and “Battle of Chile” by Chilean director Patricio Guzman and “Inheritance” by Iranian director Kambiz Amir-Khosravi, will also be screened.

Scholars and film critics are scheduled to give lectures and hold workshops on the subject matter of the festival, which is “Films Depicting Coups D’état Around the World”.

The festival also aims to shed light on the role of the global arrogant powers in leading coups in other countries.

This is the first time the festival will screen films by international filmmakers.
