Iran resumes electricity exports to Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan

TEHRAN- Iran’s Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian announced on Saturday that after resolving domestic power outage problems, Iran has resumed exports of electricity to its neighbor countries Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, IRNA reported.
“Iran fulfills its commitments about trading energy and power with its neighbors,” the Iranian minister said in a press conference.
Since starting of the summer, an intense heat-wave blanketed over most of the cities of Iran, leading to an over-usage of air-conditioning appliances and a significant jump in electricity consumption among the household consumers. The situation led to a series of daily power outages across the country which affected many businesses and people adversely.
Some believed the main reason for this power outages was that Iran was exporting electricity to the neighboring countries despite its domestic needs and this has led to the current situation.
