Deemak Theater Group to perform “Marshmallow” in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan

TEHRAN-Deemak Theater Group will start performing “Marshmallow” in different cities of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan from October 23.
“We will perform in Tajik cities of Samarqand, Bukhara, and Tashkent as well as Dushanbe in Tajikistan,” Albert Beygjani, head of the theater group, was quoted as saying by ISNA.
“Marshmallow” is a paper theater that uses paper puppets for children and family. It is about identity crises.
“It is my own adaptation of Shell Silverstein’s 1963 story “Lafcadio: The Lion Who Shot Back”. It is the tale of a lion in a jungle, who finds a weapon and learns to shoot. He becomes a famous shooter and set off to travel around the world,” he added.
“The 45-minute play will be performed in Persian and Russian. Dariysuh Moaddabian is our Persian performer and Shervin Dorosti will perform it in Russian,” he noted.
Paper theater, also known as toy theater, model theater and juvenile drama, is a technique that involves the manipulation of paper characters. Since the end of the 20th century the technique has been used by an increasing number of puppeteers and other artists.
“The play has been staged for 14 years. It has taken part in 16 international festivals and been performed in six languages including Persian, Russian, Armenian, Georgian, English and French,” Beygjani said.
