NEW DELHI -- Maulana Syed Asad Madani, president of Jamiat-Ulema-i-Hind, a noted Muslim organization, welcomed the unilateral ceasefire made by the center in Jammu and Kashmir during the holy month of Ramazan.
According to a press release issued by the organization, a copy of which was received by Irna Today, Maulana Madani observed that though the decision has been taken very late the step itself is positive.
"I hope the step will pave the way for the peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue," he said.
Due to the protracted violence, many people have deserted the state. Tourism and other sources of economy have almost dried.
There are heavy losses of life and wealth, added Maulana Madani.
He also stressed that the issue of Kashmir should be solved through negotiations and peaceful means rather than force and violence.
Maulana Madani asked the government to take all such possible actions that could speed up the peace process and the temporary ceasefire turn into a permenent one.
He also asked all the militant organizations without any exception to participate in the peace process so that the lost glory and beauty of Kashmir may be restored and the miseries of the people come to an end.
