President Receives Violante, German Ambassador

TEHRAN President Mohammad Khatami received the President of Italian Chamber of Deputies Luciano Violante here yesterday. In the meeting, the president expressed hope that bilateral ties would further expand in the near future.
He said the two countries share common stance toward important regional and international issues, including human rights, freedom and peace.
The president underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran praises measures taken by Italy to promote global peace.
Meanwhile, the German Ambassador to Iran Rudiger Reyels here on Sunday presented his credentials to President Mohammad Khatami.
At the meeting, President Khatami pointed to good and strong ties between the two countries and said bilateral relations should be expanded through insight and prudence.
The president referred to recurrent exchange of visits by officials of the two countries to Tehran and Berlin recently and especially his own visit to Germany and said such visits have opened up new avenues in bilateral ties.
The incoming German ambassador said that bilateral ties are increasingly improving and added that the two governments and nations expect the relations to be at the highest level.
