BIRJAND, Khorasan Province -- Commander of Law Enforcement Forces of Khorasan Province Colonel Mohammadreza Tamandi announced here Wednesday that over 541.5kg of morphine have been seized in the city of Birjand in the past 48 hours.

He told IRNA that LEF seized 467kg of morphine concealed in a truck.

Also, in another operations, smugglers escaped and set a vehicle on fire when LEF surrounded them. Some 71.7kg of morphine and 2.8kg of opium was seized from the burnt vehicle, the LEF commander said.

Tamandi said that one smuggler was arrested and handed to the judicial authorities.

Meanwhile in another operations on Wednesday, the provincial LEF killed four armed traffickers in the border area of Taibad, also in Khorasan Province.
