DUBAI Dubai authorities have arrested a 14 airport officials on corruption charges and published their names and pictures in a new "name and shame" policy against corruption in government departments.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) newspapers on Saturday quoted a Dubai government statement as saying the gang included several senior officers suspected of using their posts at Dubai International Airport to embezzle state funds.

"These corrupt staff have betrayed the trust of the government," the statement said.

Government-controlled papers published the full names of all the accused and pictures of six of them on their front pages in a new "name and shame" policy adopted by UAE Defense Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum.

Among the accused were Isa Saif al-Ali, head of passports at the airport, Adel Abdullah al-Shihi, head of the Passports Department in the airport's Duty-Free Zone and senior airport official Abdullah Khalifa Suleiman.

On February 10, Dubai authorities announced they had arrested the emirate's customs chief and two of his top aides, accusing them of illegally amassing tens of millions of dirhams (dollars) over two years.
