Syria to Take Part in Asian Wrestling Tournament in Iran

DAMASCUS The young adults' freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling teams of Syria will participate in the Asian contests to be held in Tehran.

Talking to IRNA, a senior member of Syrian National Olympic Committee said, "Syria's Wrestling Federation is to send a team to Tehran tournament, comprising 20 freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers for fighting in different weights, who will be accompanied by two coaches and one judge."

Syria is among the strongest Arab teams, said Ragheb Halaveh adding that the Syrian team ranked first in the bouts held in Damascus last April.

The Asian wrestling contests are to be held in Tehran from July 3-7.

Fighting Asian teams in particular Iran will be a breakthrough for the Syrian wrestling, continued the official.

He pointed out, "The national wrestling team of Syria will hold training sessions in Tehran next month in order to prepare for taking part in the Mediterranean Sea Wrestling Championship contests to be held in Tunisia."
