Germany's Kahn Needs Six Weeks for Finger to Heal

MUNICH, Germany -- Germany's Captain Oliver Kahn, the first goalkeeper to win FIFA's Golden Ball award, is likely to be out of action for six weeks with a finger injury, his doctor said.
Kahn would be ready to play again at the start of the Bundesliga season on August 10 and 11, German sports news agency SID quoted Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt as saying on Saturday. "The issue is a torn ligament on the little finger involving a joint," he said. "Oliver Kahn will have to wait patiently for it to heal."
Kahn hurt his finger during Germany's 0-2 loss to Brazil in the World Cup final last weekend, Reuters reported.
Soccer's world governing body named the 33-year-old Kahn, whose saves saw Germany through to the final, as the sixth winner of the award that recognizes the best player in the World Cup.
Kahn is now on holiday with his family and will join his team Bayern Munich for training on July 22.
