Promoting of Culture of Happiness, Essential for Every Society
Based on a study recently conducted by the National Youth Organization, 52 percent of the youth said that they do not have the delightful feeling that a young person should have. Sixty percent of them said that they are short-tempered.
Psychological health is an important factor in happiness. Family, home, school, university, television, and the cultural and political situation of the country all influence the mood of the youth.
This huge population of unhappy youth is directly affected by the economic, cultural, and social conditions of life. If these conditions are unfavorable then there is a corresponding rise in promiscuity, drug abuse, and other problems among the youth.
Happiness and mental health increases the creativity and hopefulness of the young generation.
A depressed young person is isolated and is not able to cope with personal and social problems.
He/she is vulnerable to addiction and immoral behavior, is not strong enough to face his/her problems, and loses his/her self-confidence.
The culture of happiness is formed gradually and is directly related to the inner life. We should not expect a nation to become happy suddenly.
Every society which is trying to promote development and avoid crises should try to improve the psychological health of its citizens, and happiness is a priority.
Happiness and contentment are mentioned in all Islamic texts. However some people believe that happiness is not over-emphasized in these texts.
Music always fills a large part of the youth's time. If we do not produce enough good music in our country, how can we expect to have satisfied youth? We should be aware of the needs of our youth and meet their needs within a religious framework.
