Shah Abolqassem Mosque in Yazd
The remaining architecture of the mosque is only a mihrab (prayer niche).
The mihrab includes an arch with the height of 120cm, width of 140cm, and depth of 1.5cm.
American Professor Pop and Dr. Zamani believed that the mihrab dates back to the 5th or 6th century A.H., said research deputy of the Yazd Cultural Heritage Department.
Writer of the book "Yazd Memorials", Iraj Afshar, has introduced the building as the only old and beautiful building from Mogul era.
The embossed plasterwork of Mihrab proves the work belongs to Seljukid era. Also the decorative parts include arabesque patterns as well as geometric ones.
The inscriptions of the mihrab are written in Kufic script on an arabesque background, and a verse of holy Qoran meaning "Thee do we serve and Thee do we beseech for help" (The Opening Sura, Verse 5) is also written on its top.
Several words can be seen on the arch which are mostly faded away, but it can be estimated they belong to the verses of The Unity Sura of the holy Qoran.
