Final Results, Combination of Experts Assembly Elections

TEHRAN The final results of the Experts Assembly's elections held on October 23 were announced yesterday. A total of 17,847,505 out of 39 million eligible voters participated in the elections. Out of the total number of winners, 47 belong to the list of the nominees of Jame' Rohaiyat Mobarez (MRM) and the Society of Seminary Teachers (SST); 17 winners are common in the lists of the MRM, SST, and Kargozaran Party; 10 belong to the exclusive list of Kargozaran Party and 5 are independent candidates.

The head of the elections headquarters of Tehran Province, Ebrahim Rezaie Babadi, here Sunday noon announced the final results for Tehran constituency for the third term of the Experts Assembly elections which were held nationwide on Friday. According to Babadi, the following 16 candidates have been elected to the 86-member assembly based on the total of 2,800,267 ballots cast, out of which 160,358 were discarded including 85,047 blank ballots.

According to Babadi, the following 16 candidates have been elected to the 86-member assembly based on the total of 2,800,267 ballots cast, out of which 160,358 were discarded including 85,047 blank ballots.

The statement said that the Iranian people with their constant presence in the scenes of the revolution and the Sacred Defense (198-88 Iraq-Iran war), have demonstrated their political maturity in safeguarding achievements of the martyrs. It further added that the large participation of people in the Experts Assembly elections, despite overt and covert conspiracies of foreign agents, brought happiness to friends and disappointment to foes.

Lauding the Iranian people for practicing vigilance, the board expressed the hope that the people will remain steadfast and vigilant forever. Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri, thanked the Iranian people for their massive turnout in Experts Assembly election. Making the remark in an opening session of the Majlis Sunday, he said the election held in a peaceful and secure atmosphere was a national move which proved the power and stability of the Islamic system.

He said the people's enthusiastic turnout in the poll showed their intellectual and cultural maturity. Referring to the biased propaganda and disinformation disseminated by the alien and counter-revolutionary forces to discourage people from taking part in the election, contrary to such propaganda, people's enthusiasm for the election added to its significance. Pointing to the a 50 percent growth in the number of voters in the Experts Assembly election this year compared to previous polls, he attributed it to people taking heed of the Leader's call.

Anyone who has objections and complaints about the procedures of the Friday elections for the 86-seat Experts Assembly are to send their complaints to the secretariat of the Guardians Council at the latest by Friday October 30. In a statement issued Sunday, the council said that complaints will be considered according to the executive regulations of the elections for the assembly.

In case the plaintiff accuses a candidate without supporting it with evidence, he will be liable to persecution. It added that the process of investigation of complaints will be kept secret.
