TEHRAN, Dec 28 (MNA) -- Knife accounts for 85 percent of murder weapons in Iran, a new research conducted by Tehran Shahid Beheshti University found here on Monday.
According to the head of the research team, Majid Abhari, knife or cutting instruments are used in 85 percent of murders in Iran.Of those incidents in which the murder weapon was specified, 85 percent of the homicides were committed with knifes, cutting instruments, and blunt objects including, clubs, and hammers, Abhari explained.
A very small percentage of murders committed with other types of weapons, including firearms, poison, explosives, and personal weapons such as hands, fists, and feet, Abhari noted.
The specialist in behavioral sciences blamed the high rate of knife murders on the society on the free availability of cold weapons on the streets of the country.
Putting stress on the role of family, media, strict rules and regulations in reducing the society’s aggressive behaviors, the sociologist called for concerted efforts to raise the social awareness and forbid freely carrying such weapons within the society.
