Ex-communications minister stabbed at Amirkabir University

TEHRAN – Former Minister of Information and Communications Technology Ahmad Motamedi was assaulted on Monday morning in his office at Amirkabir University of Technology in central Tehran.

Motamedi was badly wounded by the attacker who was arrested by security personnel of the university. The attacker, 50, attacked Motamedi with knife.
Motamedi was hospitalized with wounds to his chest and underwent an emergency surgery.
In a statement issued late Monday the university said the assailant was a retiree who had said the motivation behind his act was to avenge on the former minister, claiming he suffered great financial cost under his ministry.
He said he embarked on taking avenge after his efforts through legal channels produced no result, the statement said.
Motamedi, who currently holds a faculty position at Amirkabir University, served under the reformist administration of former President Mohammad Khatami.
