Rigi’s brother hanged in Zahedan

ZAHEDAN -- Abdolhamid Rigi, the brother of captured Jundullah terrorist group leader Abdolmalek Rigi, was hanged at a prison in Zahedan on Monday morning.

Abdolhamid Rigi, the number two man in the Jundullah terrorist group, was hanged at 5:00 a.m. local time in the Iranian city in the eastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan.
The convict was hanged after the Supreme Court upheld his death sentence.
Jundullah has carried out a string of deadly terrorist acts, including the October 18, 2009 attack that killed over 40 Iranians, including five senior commanders of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.
Abdolhamid Rigi was convicted of terrorist acts, armed robbery, abductions, armed struggle against the security forces in several Iranian cities, and weapons smuggling.
Some family members of Jundullah victims attended the execution to gain closure and to help alleviate “their pain,” said Ebrahim Hamidi, an official of the Sistan-Baluchestan Province Judiciary.
“The Judiciary decided not to carry out the sentence in public because of some security issues,” Hamidi said.
