TEHRAN - The dossier of two German nationals detained in Iran is going through the judicial process, Judiciary spokesperson Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei said on Monday.
The two German nationals, who had entered the country on tourist visas, were arrested in Iran for trying to interview relatives of Sakineh Ashtiani without having obtained journalistic credentials. Sakineh Ashtiani received a death sentence for committing murder and this sentence takes precedence over her conviction for committing adultery. The two men will be held in custody until a court ruling is issued, Mohseni-Ejei, who is also the national prosecutor general, told reporters during a press conference in Tehran.
Asked about a letter purportedly written by Mehdi Hashemi, he said there is no name or signature that shows the letter was written by Hashemi, and added, “I think the letter was written by one of his relatives.”
But if Mehdi Hashemi returns to Iran, he will be prosecuted, he stated.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Mohseni-Ejei condemned the UN Human Rights Council’s recent draft resolution against Iran.
He said the “unjustified and illegal” move has no judicial or legal value.
The countries behind the resolution have launched many propaganda campaigns against Iran over the past 30 years, he stated.
Certain countries, like the United States, Israel, Britain, and Canada, are in no position to call themselves defenders of human rights because they themselves have violated human rights on numerous occasions, he added
