TEHRAN -- Iranian vocalist Alireza Qorbani along with Tunisian singer Dorsaf Hamdani will repeat their live performance of “Rapture: The Rite of Omar Khayyam” this time in Nice, France on June 18.
Composed by Ali Qamsari and comprised of Iranian and Tunisian musicians, the entire concert centers on the poetry of Khayyam, Qorbani told the Persian service of MNA on Sunday.“The Iranian poet and mathematician Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) is well known in the West as is Hafez and Sadi. Khayyam’s poetry has been translated into different languages and that is why we chose it.
“The concert was previously held in different cities in Europe and Africa and was warmly received. Therefore, we decided to give a live performance in Nice as well.
“The band features composer Qamsari on tar and Saman Samimi on kamancheh. Several other musicians also accompany the band playing drum and oud.
“We will be heading to Tangier in Morocco for a June 22 performance. The concert is arranged in honor of Rumi and is dedicated to his poetry,” he concluded.
Qorbani and his band took part at the 10th annual Mawazine International Music Festival in Rabat, Morocco held late May.
