Book on female personalities published in Tehran

TEHRAN – A book containing brief biographies of over 2000 female personalities from Iran and around the world has been published in Tehran.

Ertebat Novin Publications has recently released the book entitled “The Encyclopedia of Women from Iran and the World” under the supervision of Mohammadreza Sohrabi.

The book provides materials about top figures in literature, art, sociology, sports, and scientists and some other fields.


Morshed Mirza Ali performing naqqalis on Imam Ali (AS)

TEHRAN -- Morshed Mohsen Mirza Ali is giving performances of naqqali, a style of storytelling dedicated to epic stories, about the martyrdom of Imam Ali (AS) at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) during the ‘grand nights’.

The nights of the 19th, 21st, and 23rd of Ramadan are known as the ‘grand nights’, on one of which the Quran was sent down to the Prophet Muhammad (S).

One of the performances, which have been organized to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali (AS), was staged on Sunday night.

Naqqali is performed by a naqqal or a morshed (mentor), and is mostly based on paintings depicting scenes from Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh.


Sartre “Victors” to go stage in Tehran

TEHRAN – An Iranian troupe led by director Manuchehr Hadi plans to perform French playwright Jean-Paul Sartre’s “The Victors” at Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural Center in early September.

“The cast composed of Yekta Naser, Siavash Tahmures, Rasul Najafian, Sina Razani, Sirus Hemmati and several others has been rehearsing over the past two months,” Hadi told the Persian service of MNA on Sunday.

Originally staged in 1941 as “Morts sans sepulture”, the two-act play centers on a group of five French Partisans stopped by militia forces. While waiting to be interviewed each finds himself alone with his doubts.


Iranian photographers shortlisted for Indonesian awards

TEHRAN – Iranian photographers Maryam Firuzi, Mohammad Sorkhabi, Mohammed-Sadegh Hosseini and Saeid Rezvanian have been nominated for the 2015 Kuala Lumpur International Photo Awards.

Hosseini’s work entitled “Nilufar” has been selected in the Open Section. The photo shows a nomadic girl of the same name in the southern Iranian province of Fars.

“My Grandmother” by Firuzi, “What Human Beings See in Their Own Dreams” by Saeid Rezvanian, and “Hajar” and “Like an Angel” by Mohammad Sorkhabi were nominated in the Seeing Beauty Section.

Winners will be announced on the July 18 and a public exhibition of works by all the finalists will be held at White Box Gallery in Kuala Lumpur from August 1 to 15.


Director of Iran’s Music Office quits

TEHRAN – The director of the Music Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Piruz Arjmand, has resigned.

In a press release published on Sunday, he said that he resigned to pursue his academic career.

He held the position since January 2013.
