TEHRAN -- Representatives of some Iranian tour and travel agencies are introducing Iran’s hidden treasures to tourism experts at the 36th edition of FITUR, the premier business and promotion forum of the worldwide tourism industry, which runs from January 20 to 24 at IFEMA - Feria de Madrid, Spain.

Touring & Automobile Club of Iran is one of the participants. Founded in 1939, the Club aims to facilitate international travel by car.

Wholesalers and tour agents, named Iran Doostan Tours Co., IRAN HRC Company, Iran Sheedee Travel, and Marcopolo Iran Touring Co. are other participants.

The Iranian side has set up information booths to answer any questions both from professionals and the general public, with a workshop on Iranian traditional crafts such as carpet making and a place offering local delicacies such as saffron juice.

With the end to economic sanctions against Iran after the agreement on its nuclear program, the country is opening in many areas, particularly in the area of tourism, so far virtually non-existent.

Nearly 125,000 companies from around the world are participating in FITUR 2016.

Iranian authorities have set impressive goals for the industry to increase the number of tourists from five million in 2014 to 20 million in 2025. The country plans to generate up to $30 billion in revenues per annum from tourism by 2025.
