DAMASCUS Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said here on Sunday that he is to hold talks with Syrian officials on consequences of the Zionist regime's assaults on Lebanon and on the latest developments in the region. Kharrazi told reporters that he is also to hold talks with Syrians on Foreign Ministerial meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) member countries and bring about coordination between Iran and Syria. Policies of Iran, Syria and Lebanon on regional issues are interlinked, prompting the three parties to hold regular consultations, the Iranian minister added.
He said that a team from Iran's roads and transportation ministry would accompany him in his visit to Lebanon to assess extent of damage inflicted on Lebanon as a result of Israeli invasion of Lebanese territory. Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk ash-Shara', condemning the Zionist regime's attack on Lebanon, said Israel is responsible for loss of life and property in Lebanon. We will stand by the Lebanese people with all might to encounter any possible assault on the part of the Zionist regime,'' said ash-Shara'.
What Israel has done in Lebanon is blatant violation of the April accord, he said, adding that the Zionist regime should respect the accord until another accord or agreement is signed, he told reporters. Meanwhlile, Kharrazi told the reporters in Damascus, that savage invasion of Lebanon will being no gains for the Zionist regime. Kharrazi told reporters that the attacks are categorically condemned.
What was important and clear in his talks with Syrian counterpart Farouk ash-Shara was the support of the Iranian and Syrian governments for Lebanese Islamic resistance to Zionist occupation forces, he added. He said that he and ash-Shara exchanged views on latest developments in the region. The Syrian government's stances are similar to those of Iran in this respect, he added.
