TEHRAN – The 10th edition of Iran’s National Biennial of Persian Painting will open in Tehran’s Negarestan Garden Museum on Saturday, December 17.
About 200 works will be competing in different sections of the biennial including illumination, miniature and gol-o-morgh (a unique style of Persian painting featuring bird and floral motifs in different colors).
Also included is tash’ir (a form of simple illumination decorated with tiny irregular patterns).
The biennial will also be hosting an academic seminar in which articles on different topics including the influence of the National Museum of Iran on the contemporary art of Persian painting will be discussed.
Experts on Persian painting are expected to attend the seminar to be held on the sidelines of the event.
The works will be on display for a month at the museum located in Baharestan neighborhood.
Iran’s Office for Visual Arts and the Institute for Promotion of Contemporary Visual Art are the major organizers of the biennial.
