Director General of Youth Affairs and Sports Office in Sistan and Balouchestan Province Hossein Thori has been elected as president of Iran Boxing Federation on Tuesday.

In the election held at the Iran’s Academy Olympic in Tehran, Thori took charge of the federation for a four-year term until 2021 with 23 votes.

Ruhollah Hosseini came second with 15 votes and Hossein Fashi won just one vote.

Thori replaced Ahmad Nategh-Nouri who resigned from his post after 28 years in July.

“First of all, I should announce I retire as Director General of Youth Affairs and Sports Office in Sistan and Balouchestan Province because I am president of boxing federation now,” Thori said.

“Iran will continue with Akbar Ahadi as head coach and we will not sign a foreign coach,” he added.
