Iran’s first goalkeeper Taari laid to rest

TEHRAN - Iran national football team first goalkeeper Ghorban Ali Taari was laid to rest on Monday in Tehran’s Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery.

Taari passed away at the age of 93 on Friday.

He was born in Tehran and started his goalkeeping career in Shahin football club.

Taari also played in Daraei, Taj and Persepolis.

He played just one match for Iran national football team. On May 28, 1950, the keeper represented Iran in the match against Turkey in Istanbul, where the Persian suffered a 6-1 loss against the hosts.

Taari also worked as pundit for Iran’s state-run national radio and TV (IRIB) after his goalkeeping career.
